NORTH  HOUSE  CAMPUS  TOURS
     Every Saturdays - 2pm
Each weekend, North House hosts a free tour of campus open to visitors, students, friends and family. The 45-minute tour visits all of the classrooms, explores North House's history, and includes time for questions.  Please arrive early - call 218-387-9762 with questions.  Summer tours on Sunday may also be available.

 

Grand Marais Jazz Festival 
Saturday-Sunday, May 9-11, 2008
Great music on the North Shore.  Come enjoy top flight jazz, cuisine and hospitality on the beautiful North Shore and scenic Gunflint Trails. www.grandmaraisjazzfest.com

 


BOREAL  BIRDING  and 
     NORTHERN  LANDSCAPES  FESTIVAL
Thursday-Sunday, June 5-8, 2008
Discovering the birds, wildflowers, geology and more of this dynamic and rich northern landscape is the focus of the festival. This year's event included two special public programs:
** "Peregrines on the North Shore" at USFS, Thu, June 5 at 7pm
** "The Bird Feed" at Sivertson's Gallery, Fri, June 6 at 7pm
     featuring Liz Sivertson, North Shore artist
** "Owls of the North"
     at North House, Sat, June 7 at 7pm
     featuring David Benson, author and educator

WOODEN  BOAT  SHOW  &  SUMMER  SOLSTICE  FESTIVAL
Friday-Sunday, June 20-22, 2008
North House's biggest celebration of its educational mission. Harbor-side activities, music, food, demonstrations and so much more.  Complete details available on the Wooden Boat Show page. 

** Weekend includes the Boats to Tools auction - make a donation to support North House!

Grand Marais Arts Festival
Friday-Sunday, July 12-13, 2008
Potters to photographers, basket makers to fiber artists. This event is hosted by the Grand Marais Art Colony.

NORTH  SHORE  DRAGON 
   BOAT  FESTIVAL and  GRAND  MARAIS
Friday-Sunday, July 25-27, 2008
The dragons are back for their
5th Annual appearance!    Learn more.  Paddlers for the "Made By Hand" boat composed of North House enthusiasts are needed - request paddling info. (paddling spots are limited).

Fisherman's Picnic
Thursday-Sunday, July 31-August 3, 2008
Fish burgers, cotton candy, log rolling and live music.  There's a little bit of everything at the Grand Marais' Fisherman's Picnic.  Hosted by the Lion's Club, this is one of the busiest weekend in Grand Marais.  Make your reservations early.

Grand Portage Pow Wow
   and Rendezvous

Friday-Sunday, August 8-10, 2008
A celebration of the history and culture of the north, this multi-day event includes Chippewa traditions, pow-wow dancing, numerous hands-on learning opportunities and historical reenactments of fur trade days  To learn more visit the Grand Portage National Monument web site as well as the Grand Portage Pow Wow web site.

     Celebrate The Mission, Sustain The Dream
September 26-28, 2008
Explore Traditions - Music, Storytelling and More! Unplugged's goal is to "Celebrate the Mission, Sustain the Dream" by raising funds for North House endowment fund.  A weekend of celebration and fall colors is on the horizon!  See the schedule and get event details.


AUTUMN  MIGRATION  
     and SUPERIOR  ECOLOGY  SERIES

August 23 - October 26, 2008
Field courses, campus workshops, and engaging ecology-focused programs all focused on understanding Lake Superior's North Shore. 
Fall migration on Lake Superior has historically offered some of the most dynamic birding opportunities available.  Fall weather patterns combined with Lake Superior’s immense size funnel migrating birds along the North Shore of Lake Superior.  The Series capitalizes on this unique reality.

WINTERER'S  GATHERING VII 
     &  ARCTIC  FILM  FESTIVAL
Thursday-Sunday, November 20-23, 2008
A multi-day educational event that celebrates the crafts, customs, landscape, history and stories of winter travel and traditional life ways in the north.  Coursework, workshops, a winter tent camp, gear swap, community dancing, evening films, featured speakers and more.

Craft In The Spotlight

Craft In The Spotlight celebrates the elemental beauty of traditional craft!  North House presented this winter event in 2006, 2007 and 2008 - each year featured a six-week exhibit complemented by a series of related traditional craft courses, speakers, storytellers and more.  Complete details and gallery photos available on-line.
